Compliance Embargo Advisor
Job description
Group Compliance staff work in a coordinating and advisory role, both for the Bank and the
Insurance and for the entities of the Group. The Group Compliance Embargo team is
responsible for supporting the Group entities in implementing international financial and trade sanctions (hereafter referred to as ‘embargoes’). An advisor in the Embargo team is responsible for providing advice concerning specific cases the business is being confronted with, the drafting of policies and procedures, and their practical implementation.
Responsibilities
The Compliance Embargo advisor function includes the following tasks :
• monitoring national and international developments and embargo regulations;
• conversion of embargo laws and regulations into procedures and instructions (instructions in Knowledge Base, Group Compliance Rules, etc.);
• providing advice to the branch network and central services and to the compliance functions of other group entities; and
• raising staff awareness through training and communication.
As Compliance Advisor you have a bridging function towards the business domains. You play a dual role: on the one hand by advising the business and supporting it with advice and
awareness, and on the other hand by ensuring that the rules are monitored or laid down in
internal procedures.
Needed Qualifications
As a Compliance Embargo advisor
o You have a master's degree in law.
o You have minimum 5 years of experience in embargo compliance.
o You have very good knowledge of embargo legislation and regulation; notably of EU and US sanctions legislation.
o You are solution oriented and creative. You have strong analytical skills so that you can easily convert a complex and volatile matter into comprehensible instructions for the business and/or substantiate your decisions in a specific case.
o You are communicative, short, concise and clear. In this way, you can convey the essence of the legal provisions to the business, both in policies and procedures, as well as in oral
explanations or decisions in concrete cases.
o You can communicate fluently and clearly, because you have to translate complex matters
into guidelines and communications in an understandable way.
o In addition to Dutch, you have a very good knowledge of (spoken and written) English
